ARTICLE I— Name. 

The name of this organization shall be "The Nine- 
teenth Century Club." 

ARTICLE II-Purpose. 
Its purpose shall be the improvement of its members by 
the study of History, Literature and Art. 

ARTICLE III— Members 

Section 1. The membership of this club shall consist of 
Active and Honorary Members. The active membership 
shall be limited to seventeen members. 

Sec. 2. All applications of candidates for membership 
shall be handed to the secretary at a regular or special 
meeting of the club, and the members shall vote by ballot on 
the same at the next regular meeting. 



Sec. 3. The unanimous vote of the active members pre- 
sent at any meeting, which for this purpose shall not be less 
than nine, shall be necessary to an election. 

ARTICLE IV— Officers. 

The officers of this club shall be a President, Vice-Presi- 
dent, Secretary and Treasurer, and Program Committee, 
composed of three active members. 

Sec. 2. All officers shall be elected by ballot at the an- 
nual banquet, which shall be held during the month of 
March, and a majority vote of the active members present 
shall be necessary to an election. 

Sec. 3. The Program Committee shall enter upon its 
duties immediately thereafter. All other officers so elected 
shall enter upon their respective duties at the close of the 
working year. 

ARTICLE V-Meetings. 

The club year shall begin with the last Tuesday in Sep- 



tember and end with the first meeting in June, the meetings 
to be held fortnightly, beginning at 8:30 p. m. for a social 
session, the business to commence promptly at 4:00 o'clock. 

ARTICLE VI— Dues. 
The expenses of the club shall be defrayed by annual 
dues from each active member and such other equal assess- 
ments as necessity may require. 

Sec. 1. The President, Vice-President, Secretary and 
Treasurer, shall perform the duties usually accompanying 
such offices, and the Secretary may also perform the duties of 
the Treasurer. The Program Committee shall prepare and 
print the program for the next club year, and distribute the 
same at the last meeting of the club year. 

Sec. 2. A quorum for the transaction of all business 
shall consist of five active members. 



Sec. 3. Any member may bring a friend not a resident 
of the city to any regular meeting. 

Sec. 4. The annual dues shall be one dollar, payable at 
the first club meeting. 

Sec, 5. Absence from three consecutive club meetings 
by any member, without sufficient excuse given to the Sec- 
retary, shall be considered as a desire on her part to with- 
draw her membership in the club. 

Sec. 6. This Constitution and By-Laws may be amend- 
ed at any time by a majority vote of the active members 
present at any regular meeting; Provided, the said amend- 
ment is read at the meeting previous*
